Picked up this JPS Sauce bottle, or what I believe is a sauce? Anyways it has a Double Small X on the base and the color looks like I want to be Western Glass. Any Ideas?

That's a Hoff's Malt Extract bottle. "JSP" = Joseph s. Pedersen. Look at this link and you can just see the signature near the bottom of the label. http://ids.si.edu/ids/deliveryService?responseType=location&id=NMAH-NMAH2003-02114
ReplyDeleteSole agents in New York. Unlikely to be western.
Super looking JSP, Rick! Those are certainly among the most classic "national brand" antique bottles of all time! I'd love to think that all "x" and "*" base bottles are western, but so many have turned out to be European or Eastern. Tough to prove it one way or another, but you have a nice example either way! I understand those bottles to be a malt extract, with the "JSP" as the initials for Joseph S. Peterson.
ReplyDelete*Pederson (auto correct got me on that one). From New York too.
ReplyDeleteYes its a western want to be, turns out not a sauce but a Digestive Tonic produced in NY. The X's made Me wonder though? Thanks lance
ReplyDeleteJust saw you have it listed on eBay too...if it doesn't sell, bring it to the next botl club mtg... I'll give you 20 cash (no gay fees) if it's an applied one.
