Here's a recently discovered Dr. Henley's Eye Opener bottle with an almost intact original label
From what information I can gather from the labels the Eye Opener was a medicine NOT a bitters.
Interesting twist to what the Eye Opener bottle contained - rs -
This is major!
ReplyDeleteI would still like to see all of the label...especially the beginning to see if it says " These bitters...etc" or "This tonic" or whatever. The beginning of the back label is not visible. The ingredients sure look like some form of bitters to me but the missing link is the beginning of the label text. Knowing Henly (figurative) , the concoction was probably the extra IXL bitters they had on hand poured in to another bottle. Same barrel, many containers. Sounds tasty, and I love the hairy eyeball. That is the coolest label I have seen in a long time Was the bottle also embossed? Was it found in the wall of an old house??? MAX Cal49er

ReplyDeleteGreat label!
ReplyDeleteWhat a Great Find, What a Killer Label, Any Idea Where it Was Found or How. New Stuff Showing Up All the Time.
ReplyDeleteKiller find! ...Medicine yes. All Bitters are some form of fancy medicine.(the top medicine you might say.) That's why they are mostly sold out of drugstores not saloons.
ReplyDeleteProbably IXL Bitters poured in to a different container. Roots, bark and alcohol...
