An online site for the western collector of antique bottles, gold rush collectables and early western material culture
Unfortunately, I cannot locate my copy of the Old San Francisco Directory compiled by Eric McGuire. That would tell you a more precise date for your boxed demijohn.
ReplyDeleteThank you Warren for the help in dating this demijohn.
ReplyDeleteDoing some research I get a date of between 1897 -1909 for this boxed demijohn.
ReplyDeleteShould of seen the beautiful amber Jesse Moore back bar that was with this
ReplyDeleteThat time period could make this boxed demijohn a product of S.F.& P.G.W. (1897-1899), or Abramson-Heunisch Glass Co. (1900-1902), or P.C.G.W. (1902-on), or I.P.G.C. (Illinois Pacific Glass Company 1902-on).
ReplyDeleteGreat information Warren, many thanks :)
ReplyDeleteJesse Moore Hunt Co. was located at 200 Davis St. in S. F. in 1905.
ReplyDeleteIn 1906, (post quake & fire) they relocated to 763 - 765 Harrison, again in S. F.
They remained at this address though 1907.
In 1908 they moved again; this time to 195-199 2nd St. S. F.
In 1917, they downsized to 195 2nd St. They remained at 195 2nd through 1918 and closed their doors prior to the 1919 directory being published.
Hence; the window for this item is ca. 1908 - 1916.
Outstanding detective work Bruce, many thanks for the information.
