A Beginners Guide to Western Bottle Lingo


Whittled
(From the early belief that bottle molds were whittled out of wood)
 
 
 
Lightly Whittled
 
 
Bubblelicous
( A bottle with a lot of air bubbles in the glass)
 
 
Aqua
(The color of Water)
 

 
Western Aqua
(A deep bluish aqua)
 
 
Western Fire Aqua
( A warm bluish - green aqua)
 
 
Light Western Blue
(From the San Francisco & Pacific Glass Works - embossed on base)
 
And for you Western Whiskey Collectors........
 
 
Amber
(Sometimes confused by Western Whiskey collectors as having some Green)
 
 
Green
(Yes! this is green! Ask a bitters collector to confirm)
 
 
Western Aqua with a touch of Lime Green

  3. I tend to prefer the term "hammered" for any bottle that is heavily whittled and crude...it has a way of describing the condition with impact!

    Whatever the case, nice selection of bottles there Rick!

  4. Outstanding Info and Pictures Mr. Rick, I especially like the comment on the Amber Glass Whiskey and the Following "This is Green" HaHa, some people are Color Blind, or are Wishing and Full of Hope, almost need to go to Home Depot and get some Color Strips from the Paint Department.
