Here is an interesting Jamaica Ginger (The Bluish One) it has an area on the base which is in a almost perfect circle, that looks like a sand or sticky ball pontil, Jeff had a McMillin & Kester Jake in his early Pacific Glass Works Catalogs #11? that has a Pontil with Graphite residue, Never saw the base, Does anyone one have an Opinion on the base of this bottle, it is rough, in a circle and has chunks of sand in it.

Great pictures of the Jakes in two amazing colors. Looks to me like there was some garbage in the mold or the batch of glass?
ReplyDeleteJust a guess from the pictures
How's it down in the Cajon Zone Amigo?

Looks like the bottle was placed on a surface that had some sand like material on it that stuck to the glass. More interesting that that mark on the base is the color of the green example. I've never seen a green Hoss Jake. Sweet ! Seems like it has been a while since a color jake was dug............

ReplyDeletesweet bottle, but I think the bottom is too flat for the mark to be a pontil, probably just crap left on a surface that the bottle sat on, from pics that I have seen of early glass works cleanliness wasn't a priority.....Andy
