According to John Thomas, Kirkpatrick removed himself from the liquor business due to his involvement in S.F. politics and his appointment to the position as chief of police.
However, it was actually McCue who abrubtly departed from the wholesale liquor scene in 1875.

So where is an intact bottle?!!!
And, could there be a variant with the mold slugged to read Kirkpatrick & Gentry?

I would really like this bottle to exist but lack of anything concrete leaves me to lean towards the OLD FIGMENT being more likely. Till someone brings forward the evidence it will remain a mystery.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with cal49er. Until someone presents a piece of this bottle it will remain a mystery. Maybe someone had a partial label from an un-embossed example that got this started?
