A Recent Aquisition

Here's a recent aquisition against today's snowy background.

it's a Rowler's Rheumatism Medicine Prepared by Dr. J.R. Boyce Sacramento

As you can see one side of the bottle is underblown or pushed in and it has some carbon swirls

The Rowler's is one of the first documented western blown bottles
They come with and without an open pontil

and the early western curved "R's"

Is that what you western guys call "Fire Aqua"?

    1. Roger,
I miss Dolcini -- He would have given me an ear full over the "early western curved R" statement.
      Still shoveling snow?

    2. Yup, snowing again today. Haven't shoveled any dirt lately, snow and very cold since Thanksgiving. Global warming??? Sheesh!
I'm missing "Old Cutters" too. Roger

  7. Nice pickup Rick! The Rowler's have always been one of my favorite early California medicines...Baker and Cutting, for those pontiled examples! That squished in crude gem is a keeper. Dale M.

  8. Lots of great character to this Rowler's example. Another very important early blown western glass container...right up there with Dr. Bowen's Blood Purifier and the H. Adolphus Anti Rheumatic Cordial. These three embossed medicines will go down in history as some of the earliest manufactured western bottles from the first and second western glassworks.
